TRADITIONAL WOOD CARVING MASTER CRAFTSMAN (NATIONAL AWARD WINNER)

G. Balaji is an expert in excellent traditional wood carving. He inherited this special craft from his family which is their ancestral profession. Wood carving is one of the oldest traditional crafts in Andhra Pradesh and was earlier use to make temple chariots and palace entrances. One can see a great deal of minute, delicate and intricate work of carving, done by G.Balalji.

Red sandal wood of Chittoor district a wood is used to carve out images of Lord Venkateswara and of the famous Tirupati temple. This wood resists white ants and fire and is hard and elastic.

We can observe Hindu mythological stories and figures in Balaji’s creation. He was honored as National Awardee for his master creation in traditional wood carving of Chittoor.
